Whole virus simulation of COVID-19

March 19, 2020

Led by professors Rommie Amaro of UCSD and Mike Kuiper of CSIRO Australia, an international team of structural biologists, virologists, and supercomputing experts have begun work on simulating the entire COVID-19 virus. More precise work is also to be done on several large structures of COVID-19 as well as processes crucial to host cell infection and mechanisms by which the virus evades the immune system.

The team expects impactful discoveries of virus function to result from the study, as well as release of powerful tools and data for the design of new therapeutics.
